Scott Strode

Team Director & Founder:
I am a PA boy who landed in CO after eleven years in Boston. I found sobriety on April 8 1997. One of the most influential factors in my sobriety was getting involved in boxing and climbing. I have since developed a passion for mountain biking, triathlon, running, cycling, motorcycle touring and almost anything that gets me outside. I pack my winters with ice-climbing. My summers are full of rock-climbing and racing (I ride and run year round). My big passion is teaching, coaching and sharing my excitement for all of these activates with others. So, lets get out and do it!

Certifications: Certified Personal Trainer NASM, USA Triathlon level II Certified Coach, AMGA Certified Top Rope Site Manager, Wilderness First Responder, CPR and have been working, instructing, coaching and guiding in the out doors for the past fourteen years.

Ben Cort

Director of Operations and Staffing:

Hi, I’m Ben. I am a HUGE fan of the Phoenix Multi-sport idea. I have been sober since June 15 1996 and one of the crucial components to my sobriety has been outdoor/adventure activities. I have a passion for many different activities that Phoenix participates in namely climbing, backpacking/camping, fishing, boating, and road biking.

I was fortunate enough to grow up learning the fundamentals of outdoor recreation from my father, an avid adventurer. Under his guidance I began leading backpacking, climbing, and caving trips in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New York at 17 years old. I have been leading trips and teaching for the last 12 years. Most notably I was a part of another non-profit in Pennsylvania in which we worked with kids in outdoor settings. I have been privileged to lead trips for judicated youth, mentally and physically handicapped kids/patients, the boy scouts of America, various church youth groups, school systems in both Virginia and Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania State University, drug and alcohol treatment centers, summer camps, major corporations, a Quaker school, and many private groups.

As Director of Operations it is my job to keep our events fun and our calendar full so if you have ideas for additional programming drop me a line!

Robert Sagerman

I was born in 1947 in New York city. While in college during the mid 60’s into the early 70’s I experimented with my ife. During this same period I also started to back pack and kayak. I have continued to enjoy the outdoors. I kayak, cross country ski, ice climb and rock climb. Being outdoors has kept me sane. Learning to move with nature on her terms in the wilderness has given me direction and a feeling of peace. I believe nature heals us that it is the rat race of our society that destroys us. I strongly believe it is in harmony with nature that we can find peace. I teach kayaking, and climbing so that i might help others break through their barriers and find confidence and strength. I live on Cape Cod with my wife and two Newfoundland dogs.
Certifications: AMGA Top Rope Site Manager, ACA kayak Instructor with an Adaptive Paddling Endorsement, Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness First Aid and CPR

Dawn Taylor

Assistant to the Directors

I am pleased to bring my business and organizational skills to this organization so that we may continue to flourish and meet our group’s mission.

I moved to Boulder, CO in 2005 and love the active lifestyle of this community. If I hadn’t chosen the sober lifestyle, I would never have been interested in the outdoors or the variety of activities that this environment provides us. I am blessed to have met Scott and to have discovered our common involvement in both sobriety and living an active lifestyle.

My personal hope is that those in recovery from addictions may discover new life, laughter, fun, friendships, skills, and self confidence through their participation with Phoenix Multisport.

Ben Williams

Climbing Instructor
Phoenix Multisport is something that I believed in long before I knew it existed. I did some rock climbing towards the end of my addiction, prior to finding sobriety in march of 2004, but never took it seriously enough to really excel. In the early days of my recovery I latched on to being active with a an understanding that it was essential for the balance of my day to day life. This realization led me directly into climbing and climbing with a passion.
I enjoy many of the disciplines that PM teaches but in addition to climbing I keep myself busy with Running and the Crossfit program.
I am proud to teach climbing for PM and to assist in the fundraising for our local and national operations. So I am the guy to talk to if you want to get into climbing, have a climbing question, or if you have some extra cash that would make a nice tax-deductible gift to your favorite local non-profit!!
My interaction with Phoenix Multisport has given me the opportunity to provide a space for people to find freedom from their addictions through sport and to continue to grow in my understanding of our disciplines as well as in my own sobriety.

Michael Britton

Volunteer/Member Outreach Coordinator/Instructor

Hi, I’m Mike. I have recently begun working with Phoenix Multisport and I am very excited about this opportunity! It is a dream job that fits amazingly well with my interests and experiences! I’ve always been passionate about the outdoors, nature and being physically active. On Sept 23, 2003, I made the decision to live a sober lifestyle in recovery from substance abuse. I feel very fortunate that I have had the privelage to get sober in Boulder with its endless possibilities for outdoor activities and for enjoyment of natural beauty. My interest in being active in the mountians expanded significantly in sobriety as a result of clean living and a lot more free time. My current active interests include skiing, mountain biking, hiking, climbing, running, long boarding, frisbee golf and photography. I studied pyscology as an undergraduate and have been working in the social services field for the past five years. I worked for 3 years as a counselor/teacher at an alternative middle/high shcool for at risk youth. Before starting with PM , I was a Volunteer/Outreach Coordinator for a couple of programs-mentoring and family assistance. These work experiences, my dedication to sobriety and the benifits I have recieved from living an active lifestyle have contributed to my strong belief in importance of the Phoenix Multisport Mission!

As the Volunteer/Member Outreach Coordinator/Instructor I plan on developing a strong volunteer program, contributing to the continued growth of PM as well as leading and organzizing events in some of our various disciplines. Certifications: Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness First Aid and CPR, Certified Level 3 USA Cycling Coach. Please contact me with questions, concerns and ideas.

Stephen Miller

Instructor:

I have been living a sober lifestyle, one day at a time, since August 28, 1987, and have been involved in many activities that support those in recovery from Alcoholism and Addiction.

I was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and got only limited exposure to outdoor activities. I served in the US Marine Corps from 1978-1982 and enjoyed being “in the field” much more than being “mainside”. My tour of duty included the Mojave Desert in California and the jungles of Okinawa, Japan.

As the result of living a sober lifestyle, I pursued my dream of returning to college and graduated from the University of Florida a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.

Throughout my college days I enjoyed hiking, car camping, backpacking, bicycle commuting, canoeing, tubing on the spring-fed rivers, and Tae Kwon Do Karate.

After graduation I discovered the mountain playgrounds west of the Mississippi River. I shifted from backpacking to mountaineering in July 2000. However, I still enjoy rock and ice climbing, and backpacking as stand alone activities.

For general physical fitness I practice Yoga, and like to ride my hybrid/cross bicycle. For general brain fitness I enjoy solving problems (math stuff) and reading,

I am currently living in Evergreen with my bride, Cindy, to whom I have been married since 11/27/92. We have a 14 year old Lhasa Apso dog named Alexes. Together we enjoy hiking and car camping.

Certifications:

Wilderness First Responder

Very Truly Yours in Service,

Kimberly Coseglia

Hi! Im Kimberly welcome to the first day of the rest of our lives!

One day at a time since September 3, 2002 I have been learning how to be my Spirit having a clean and sober, full human experience, and I find my love of sports and fitness to be a huge part of what connects me to my Spirit and to the Universe! I believe in Phoenix Multisports many activities bringing together a (somewhat unlikely) collection of people with a common goal of sobriety and connection that creates a wonderful healthy life-positive community. I hope to contribute to this effort by offering members a foundation in fitness and strength that can be carried into every activity they wish to pursue, including creating and maintaining a healthy body mind and spirit!

I came to Colorado from Michigan in 1992 to train and race with the Womens Pro Ski Tour. Following a successful season competing around the country, I shifted gears and my lifelong passion for athletics and training ultimately lead me to the 13-year fitness training and coaching career I presently thrive in. As a former alpine ski racer and coach, a mountain/road bike racer, and a Spinning Master Instructor, I aim to bring all my training experience into my practice including my cycling classes. What I offer as a Trainer/Coach/Instructor is highly educational, goal oriented strength conditioning, and mind-body experiential, heart rate specific cardiovascular fitness training programs Prepare to learn, understand and succeed!

I believe fitness is a state of balance in body and mind. Being fit and feeling good about yourself begins with making a conscious choice and an active effort to incorporate healthy practices into your life. The sooner you begin, the sooner you will succeed!

Certifications include: Spinning Master Instructor, JGSI Certified Spinning Instructor, ACE Certified Personal Fitness Trainer, AFAA Certified Personal Fitness Instructor, FRA Certified Personal Fitness Trainer/Counselor, IISA Certified In-line Skate Instructor, EMT Basic; Basic Wild Land Firefighter

Jacki Subberra

Colorado Director

After bouncing back and forth between CA and MA, Ive found middle ground here in CO working for Phoenix. In addition to working time for Phoenix, Im entering the dissertation phase of a PhD program in the School of Social Work at Boston College. Ive been working as a clinical social worker for over 15 years with both youth and adults struggling with mental illness and substance abuse. While working in the field, it became clear to me that something was missing and that there was a need for change in the way care is delivered to those struggling with mental illness and/or addiction. Going back to school I wanted to obtain the skills to teach at the college level with the hope that I could help practitioners working in the field do a better job. I also wanted to learn how to conduct research so that I could advance the understanding of what folks struggling with mental illness and addiction need to sustain sobriety and experience improved well being in life.

Im excited to work with Phoenix and to help those looking for a sober community get connected and stay connected with others living sober.
